I know it’s a little bit late but HAD ANYONE SEEN VOGUE COVERS AROUND THE WORLD THIS MONTH?
All fashion lovers might say “Bitch, I’ve finished reading them all already” but maybe for some of you who don’t give a damn about anything related to fashion and was just lost in this blog might will just say “Vogue what? Madonna’s old song from last century?” Well, that might somehow related to each other as well.
Alright, for you all who don’t know, Vogue is literally a fashion bible of the World. It’s the number one fashion magazine which first edition was published in 1892 in U.S.A. Until this very moment, Vogue had invaded the whole World with its high profile features as the toppest Fashion Magazine around the globe and published monthly in 23 different national and regional editions by Condé Nast.
As for September, this month’s edition is considered the most important edition through all the year because as we all know that September is January in Fashion. It’s the month when summer turns to autumn and all magazines are showing their choices of fashion from the fashion weeks in February – March earlier. Besides, some editions have their anniversary exactly in this month so there are always special surprises on Vogue September.
As it is a literally the highest name of a fashion magazine can be, any models who are on the cover of it will just get the whole fashion lovers of the world’s attention, especially for the editions which are named as the big four: Vogue U.S, British Vogue, Vogue Italia, and Vogue Paris. This month, there are 3 of most discussable by all fashionistas because of their cover surprises which also happen to be my favorite. Here you go.
We all know that Vogue Japan always puts the best model of the moment to be on it’s cover. Having Anna Dello Russo as at Editor-At-Large, Vogue Japan is having it’s 15 Anniversary this September 2014. For this special occasion, Vogue Japan features not only 1,2, 0r 3 but 15 supermodels on their cover as what they call as ‘”Icons of Perfection” who are 80’s legends: Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Nadja Auermann, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, 90’s supers: Carolyn Murphy, Eva Herzigova, Guinevere Van Seenus, Karen Elson, Maggie Rizer, and 00’s icons: Malgosia Bela, Mariacarla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Tao Okamoto. photographed by Luigi and Iango
The stars: Saskia de Brauw, Tao Okamoto, Maldosia Bela, Mariacarla Boscono, and Natasha Poly represents the 00’s, Carolyn Murphy, Eva Herzigova, Guinevere Van Seenus, Karen Elson, and Maggie Rizer for the 90’s icons, and Claudia Schiffer, Nadja Auermann, Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, and Naomi Campbell as the 80’s legends. cr: vogue.co.jp
When they first released the cover, everyone was so excited especially when we see the 80’s babe are back together in one shot (altough we missed Christy Turlington here) and all of the models are just very chic and fresh with sleek hairs and straight stunning faces posing infront of a white clean background.
This is a flip out cover which the 80’s legends are the one to be the main cover and the rest follows. This simple yet stunning images is gotta be one of my favourites of Vogue Japan which is famous with it’s white clean background on their covers. However, if I got to choose which models should represents their era, my picks are gonna be:
80’s: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Carla Bruni, and Claudia Schiffer.
90’s: Laetitia Casta, Daria Werbowy, Karen Elson, Caroline Murphy, Eva Herzigova,
00’s: Natasha Poly, Mariacarla Boscono, Doutzen Kroes, Tao Okamoto, Jessica Stam
As the origin of the Vogue itself, Vogue U.S (Or just simply just Vogue as it’s like, the mother of all Vogues) is counted as the the most prestigious one. Led by Anna Wintour -rumour has it, the person who inspired the character of Miranda Priestley in Devil Wears Prada- as the Editor-in-Chief since 1988 (yes, before I was even born!) and one of the most influential persons in fashion, Any models will literally kill to be on the cover of it. Especially for recent years, when Anna Wintour prefers Actress or celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to be on the cover that made everyone got made, including me.
But finally, when they first published the teaser of Vogue cover, we all got so happy because it was our favourite babes Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, and Karlie Kloss smiling to us on the cover. Yes! Real models now! FYI, the last model who appeared on Vogue cover was Kate Upton on June 2013, more than a year ago. Last year’s September itself put Jennifer Lawrence on the cover which yes, she was gorgeous, but we wanted someone who was high fashionably gorgeous from the Industry itself. So when we finally not just all models, but literally the biggest models at this moment showed up, I literally jumped!
But the surprise didn’t stop there. When the official image of the cover was released, turned out it was another flipped out cover and showed other fellows it-models who are Andreea Diaconu, Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Fei Fei Sun, Imaan Hammam, and Vanessa Axente. Amazing with capital A!

Therefore, for some reasons, I personally think that this shot by the legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino is kinda boring. I mean, this is actually not the first time Vogue had group of supermodels on the cover, they did it maybe like 5 other times especially for September issues many years ago that featured many supermodels who lasts until now such as Jourdan Dunn, Chanel Iman, Coco Rocha, Liya Kebede, Gisele Bundchen, Doutzen Kroes, Lily Donaldson and tons of others, and this year’s group shot of September issue is maybe the least favourite one among others. Especially if we compare it to Vogue Japan, we’re like literally comparing Louis Vuitton to H&M. Not that H&M is bad, but you know what I mean, right? And if we relate that to their theme of “Instagirls”, some of the girls are just not that as popular as other models that we can name. So if I can rearrange it, the models who can possibly the best to be there are:
Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Toni Garrn, Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen, Edie Campbell, Cameron Russel, and Daria Strokous.
I don’t know how to start this but to just say: Vogue Italia is the champion! The Editor-in-Chief since 1988 Franca Sozzani with her team celebrate the 50th Anniversary of one of the World’s most important fashion magazine and feature not 9 like Vogue U.S, but triple the number of Vogue Japan cover models plus 5, yes 50 supermodels, I repeat 50 Supermodels!
The models are photographed by the one and only, Vogue Italia’s favourite, Steven Meisel. This is literally the most models on the cover in a fashion magazine by far.
They bring the most iconic living models exist on earth from the original supermodel trinity Linda-Naomi-Christy to the icons in the making like Fei Fei Sun and Sasha Luss.

The 50 supermodels in alphabetical orders are Adriana Lima, Amanda Murphy, Amber Valletta, Cameron Russell, Caroline Trentini, Carolyn Murphy, Christy Turlington, Coco Rocha, Daria Strokous, Edie Campbell, Elise Crombez, Guinevere Van Seenus, Hilary Rhoda, Isabeli Fontana, Iselin Steiro, Jamie Bochert, Jessica Stam, Jourdan Dunn, Julia Stegner, Karen Elson, Karlie Kloss, Linda Evangelista, Liu Wen, Liya Kebede, Mariacarla Boscono, Meghan Collison, Miranda Kerr, Naomi Campbell, Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Luss, Sasha Pivovarova, and Stella Tennant.
Many people were questioning where are some big names who are also Meisel’s favourite muses like Gisele Bundchen, Daria Werbowy, Anja Rubik, Doutzen Kroes and Kristen McMenamy but I’m just beyond happy about this cover and I’m not gonna bitching about my favourite models who are not on it should be on it. So yeah, bravo Italia!
